Validation Process: How to Stop Wasting Time on Client Back-and-Forth

Published June 25, 2026 by David

The worst part of freelancing? Not the work—it’s the endless client revisions that eat up your time.

You deliver your V1, proud as a kid with a new toy, and then… chaos. A never-ending email, three overlapping WhatsApp voice notes, and a Word doc packed with contradictory comments. Result: You spend more time fixing than creating. Your margin melts like an ice cube in the sun.

So, how do you take back control? Here’s how I handle it to ensure the V2 is (almost) perfect on the first try.

1. Two-Step Validation: Content First, Design Second

Your client wants to approve a design before the text is finalized? Big mistake. If they later say, "Actually, I want to add three paragraphs," you’ll have to rework everything. And that’s the beginning of the end.

My method:

  • Step 1: Validate the content (raw text, no design).
  • Step 2: Validate the final output (the polished version).

Once Step 1 is approved, I make it clear: "If you change the text after this, there will be an additional charge because it will break the layout."

2. One Feedback Channel (And I Choose It)

If your client sends one correction via email, another while driving, and a third on Slack at 10 PM, you’re guaranteed to miss something. And a missed correction = an angry client = a V3 that shouldn’t have existed.

From day one, I enforce my validation tool. Whether it’s a shared Google Doc, a Notion board, or a pro tool, the rule is clear: "All feedback goes here—or I won’t process it."

3. Ask for Problems, Not Solutions

Your client knows their business, but YOU’RE the comms expert. The issue? They often tell you how to fix things instead of what’s wrong.

Example:

  • Bad request: "Make this paragraph neon red and all caps!" → That’ll break everything.
  • Good request: "I feel like my main argument isn’t standing out enough."

Now, you can propose an elegant solution (adjust contrasts, add a clean bullet-point list, or use white space) without derailing the design.

How to Protect Your Margins from Endless Revisions

If you’re doing ghostwriting or managing LinkedIn carousels, validation can quickly become a financial black hole. Manually adjusting text and rechecking LinkedIn’s Safe Zones for a client who changes their mind every five minutes will destroy your hourly rate.

That’s where CarouselCraft comes in. This studio automatically handles layout adjustments based on your text. Edit the content, and the AI instantly recalculates alignment, margins, and contrasts. No more wasted time redoing everything manually.
